crafty little gnome: Craft Room Makeover: Part One

After taking a break from home improvement projects for a few months I'm finally ready to jump back in and get started on some new projects around the home. It's finally time to get going on my craft room makeover. Check out the before photos. It's pretty scary. I should be ashamed to show you but I guess I have no shame :)

This room serves double duty. I store all my craft supplies in here and it's also where my dogs sleep at night. We keep all the pet food in here too as well as miscellaneous stuff that doesn't have a home anywhere else in the house. Basically, I need A LOT of storage as well as a bigger table to work on crafts and? the big couch has got to go!
I'm in the planning stages right now. The ugly green carpet is going to get ripped up and replaced with peel and stick vinyl tiles and I'm going to give the walls a fresh coat of white paint to start.
I'm going to update the curtains, add a new light fixture, work on some DIY art projects for the walls and much more.
I'm really liking the look of some craft rooms I saw on Pinterest that are painted various shades of gray. Check out this cute craft room:? I have some more inspirations on my Pinterest Board here

What do you think? I'm really loving the idea of doing a stencil or striped pattern on one accent wall. I can't decide if I should try to DIY a new light fixture or buy one of these:

Isn't it gorgeous? The only problem I could see is that it's made of paper and it would be hard to clean. Also I need a lot of light in my craft room and I'm not sure how much light this would give off.

My budget is $250. It may not seem like a lot but I have a lot of the supplies I need already. I bought the floor tiles a few years ago and just haven't gotten around to ripping up the carpet yet. I also already have the paint. The main cost will go towards things like curtains and a new craft table as well as shelving for the closet. I'm hoping to have it done by Thanksgiving.
I'd love for you to link to any craft room inspirations you think I might like in the comments. I can't wait to hear your input!
