Feds approve Nexen sale to China's CNOOC

OTTAWA - The federal government has approved the $15-billion bid by China's CNOOC for Calgary's Nexen.

It also approved the $5.3-billion bid by Malaysia's Petronas for Progress Energy Resources.

But the government hinted that it will no longer announce any more purchases of Canadian oilsands companies by state-owned enterprises.
