An Amazing Preview: Be Our Guest Restaurant | i.seeKissimmee Blog

Be Our guest

Be Our Guest Restaurant concept art.

One of the most exciting parts of my Kissimmee blogging tour was getting a preview of the new Be Our Guest Restaurant in the Magic Kingdom. It included tasting an entire meal from the dinner menu, including appetizers, main course, dessert, and wine pairings.

Wine, you say? In the Magic Kingdom? Yes, you read that correctly For the first time ever, you?ll be able to have an alcoholic libation in that theme park, but only at Be Our Guest and only during dinner hours.

Be Our Guest

The signature non-alcoholic drink..

In addition to the wine, you?ll also be able to choose from a selection of French and Belgian beers. The drinks are actually a logical fit, given that Be Our Guest is a French restaurant geared toward fine dining. I predict it?s going to be a huge hit.

Be Our Guest opens in November, and reservations for the first day were snapped up almost instantly when they became available. If you want to try this restaurant, I recommend booking as early as possible because I suspect it will be as competitive as grabbing a spot at Cinderella Castle or Le Cellier at Epcot.

Be Our Guest

Delicious cured meat appetizer.

Be Our Guest will actually have two different ?personalities,? both of which maintain a high standard of elegance. During the day, you?ll order at kiosks, and your meal will be brought to your table. Even though it?s more of a counter service concept, you?ll still be served on china instead of the typical plastic throwaway plates. You?ll get to see the lovely dining rooms without going through the challenge of getting a reservation.

Be Our Guest

Salad trio, including divine beet salad.

At dinner, Be Our Guest transforms into a full-service eatery. As you can see in the photos accompanying this article, the food is raising the bar at the Magic Kingdom. I had the cured meat plate, the salad trio, and the salmon and mashed potatoes main course. The beet salad was to die for, and the salmon rivaled the cedar plank salmon at Artists Point in Disney?s Wilderness Lodge.

Be Our Guest

The mouth-watering salmon main course.

There are special kid selections, too, and don?t tell them, but they might just get an extra dose of vegetables worked into the meal. For example, the Mickey-shaped turkey meatloaf is tasty and packed with pureed veggies.

Save room because you?ll want to get dessert, if only to see the custom dessert trolley rolled over to your table so you can pick a cupcake or cream-filled puff. I loved the strawberry cupcake, and I found the gluten-free puff to be nearly indistinguishable from its regular counterpart. Dessert is a show in its own right, with the addition of special no-sugar added sauces, a dollop of grey stuff, and a sprinkling of pixie dust.

Be Our Guest

My favorite dessert.

I?m focusing on the food because I attended the tasting, but the restaurant is going to be a destination by itself.? It?s in the Beast?s castle, with three? dining rooms extensively themed to the movie. Imagineers watched Beauty and the Beast over and over again to pick out little details and work then into the setting.

Kids can get a an apple juice-based drink in a special light-up castle cup that brings light-up drinks to a new level. I suspect that more than one adult is going to want those adorable cups, too.

Be Our Guest

Try the grey stuff, it?s delicious.

When people find out I attended the Be Our Guest tasting, their first question is, ?Did you try the grey stuff?? (If you don?t know what the means, go back and listen to the ?Be Our Guest? song in the movie). Yes, I did, and yes, I can personally confirm that it?s delicious.

If you?d like to know the secret of what it contains, check out the spoiler in my Examiner column.
